About liturgical colors

Liturgical Colors

Many denominations and churches use particular colors for vestments (including stoles), paraments, and other decorations used during worship. Although different traditions have variations in the colors they use for liturgical seasons and events, here is a list of the colors commonly used.

PURPLE:

Lent, Advent (some traditions)

BLACK:

Ash Wednesday, Good Friday

WHITE:

Christmas (through Epiphany), Maundy Thursday, Easter, Trinity Sunday, All Saints Day (Nov. 1), Reign of Christ, Baptisms, weddings, funerals

Red paint on burlap

RED:

Palm/Passion Sunday, Pentecost, Reformation Day (October 31), ordinations

BLUE:

Advent (some traditions)

GREEN:

All other Sundays (ordinary time)
